If your home is due a rewire, we plan it around how you actually live: where you charge things, where the TV and router go, what the kitchen really needs.

We handle full rewires on empty and lived-in properties, and partial rewires where only part of the installation needs bringing up to standard — a new kitchen circuit, an extension, replacing a dangerous lighting circuit. Chases are cut cleanly, floors lifted and re-laid carefully, and every room is left usable at the end of each day wherever possible.

How do you know if you need a rewire?

Warning signs include a fuse box with a wooden back or cast-iron switches, cables insulated in black rubber or fabric, two-core lighting circuits with no earth, sockets that are warm or discoloured, and regular tripping or flickering. An EICR gives a definitive answer — and if the wiring is sound, we’ll tell you that too.

What a full rewire includes

New cabling to every socket, light and switch; a new metal consumer unit with RCBOs and surge protection; earthing and bonding brought up to current standard; smoke and heat alarms where required; and a full set of test results with the Electrical Installation Certificate. We agree socket and switch positions with you before first fix, so the finished house works the way you use it rather than the way it was wired in 1975.

House Rewiring — your questions

How long does a full rewire take?

A typical two-bed flat is around a week; a three-bed house usually one and a half to two weeks including making good. Partial rewires can be a day or two.

Can you rewire while we live in the house?

Yes — most of our rewires are in occupied homes. We work room by room, keep dust contained, and make sure you have power and lighting back every evening.

Does a rewire include a new fuse box?

A full rewire does — the new circuits are terminated into a new consumer unit with RCBO protection and a surge protection device, tested and certified as one installation. On a partial rewire we’ll tell you whether the existing board can safely take the new circuits.

Will a rewire wreck my decoration?

There is always some making good after chasing walls and lifting floors, but we cut chases cleanly, keep them to a minimum by planning routes first, and fill and sand ready for decoration. If you’re renovating anyway, rewire before plastering and it costs far less.
